Should You Add Qualifications Behind Your Name on LinkedIn? Let’s Discuss.

Have you ever debated whether to add your qualifications (e.g. MBA, PhD, CPA) behind your name on LinkedIn? It’s a topic that sparks strong opinions. Some see it as a way to establish credibility and showcase expertise. Others argue it can come across as unnecessary or even boastful.

So, what’s the purpose of listing your qualifications upfront?

For many, it’s about visibility and differentiation. In a crowded professional space, adding credentials can quickly communicate your expertise to recruiters, peers, and industry leaders. For example, if you’re in a field like law, medicine, or finance, these qualifications can demonstrate that you meet professional standards.

On the flip side, there’s the argument that your LinkedIn profile, experience, and achievements should speak for themselves. After all, qualifications are only one piece of the puzzle—they don’t define your leadership, innovation, or impact.

Here’s my take: I’ve decided not to include my qualifications in my name field. While I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, I want my focus to be on connecting with others as a person, not as a label. For me, networking is about meaningful conversations and collaboration, not just credentials.

That said, I’m always keen to network with professionals, learn from others, and share ideas. Let’s connect and build relationships that go beyond titles and letters.

What’s your stance? Do you display your qualifications in your name field? Why or why not?

Let’s keep the conversation going—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
